Split Flotilla in Croatia

Starting from Split Marina, this flotilla sailing holiday in Croatia offers a choice of 1-week itineraries, north or south, visiting the scenic coastline and offshore islands of the Croatian coast.

Croatia offers so much to see and explore, one visit is never enough. This Croatia flotilla sails from Split Marina and combines the best of the central Dalmatian islands of Brac, Solta and Hvar one week with the southern Kornati island chain and a visit to the popular Krka river waterfalls the following week so that you can choose your sailing area or explore both areas on a 2-week flotilla sailing holiday .

The lead yacht accompanies the flotilla. After the morning briefing everyone is free to leave at their leisure. There is always the option of free sailing within the flotilla cruising area. In Croatia most nights will be in marinas or town quays where there is a charge payable locally. The charge includes shore-power and water and, in marinas, shower facilities

You can expect reliable sunshine and predictable moderate to fresh winds Force 3-5, mainly in the afternoons.

For yacht charter or flotilla in Croatia the skipper must have RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate or RYA ICC qualification.

Split flotilla itineraries

One week the Split flotilla follows the Southern Route and sails south around the larger islands of Brac, Solta and Hvar. Each island holds a collection of small churches and red tiles houses found tucked among the pine-clad hillsides.

The following week the flotilla follows the Kornati Route and sails northwards as far as the Kornati National Park and includes Primosten, Trogir and Skradin for a visit to the popular Krka river waterfalls. Combine the 2 itineraries for a fabulous 2-week flotilla sailing holiday exploring north and south of Split.

To charter a yacht bareboat or on flotilla you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew.

At present you need an RYA Day Skipper qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for charters in Croatia, Montenegro, Mallorca, Tenerife and Malta.

The RYA ICC will be ever more required by overseas port authorities but if you have skipper experience it is easily obtained in a day from RYA sailing schools in the UK such as Hamilton Sailing or Brixham Sea School

Whether you are an experienced sailor or setting foot on a yacht for the first time, we can offer you a holiday afloat to suit you. We have given all the sailing areas a level with 'Experience Level 1' suitable for less experienced crews and 'Experience Level 3' for the experts.

This takes into account the wind strength, tidal range and currents, distances between stops and ease of mooring. Of course even experts may choose to sail in Level 1 areas as they still offer stunning scenery and great sailing.

Experience Level 1: Split & Kornati

Generally light winds Force 2-4, line of sight navigation, shorter sailing distances under 20nm. You will be Day Skipper standard having sailed at least 1 week or 100nm as skipper.

Experience Level 2: Pula, Dubrovnik & Montenegro

Stronger winds up to Force 3-5 with some longer passages up to 30nm. You will be Day Skipper standard having sailed at least 2 weeks or 200nm as skipper.

Experience Level 3:

Stronger winds up to Force 4-7 which can lead to bigger seas on long passages between the islands. You will be Coastal Skipper
standard with experience to a higher level having sailed at least 4 weeks or 400nm as skipper.

Korcula town is a spectacular mini-fortress. Nicknamed ‘Little Dubrovnik’, it’s a jumble of red-tiled roofs and medieval cobbled streets. Visit the house where Marco Polo was born and the ornate cathedral of St Mark. The waterfront has flashy bars and restaurants, but down the side streets of the Old Town you'll find a timeless quality well worth exploring.

The Krka Falls are well worth a detour inland. Sail up the Krka river to the small marina at Skradin and take a bot trip further upstream. There are seven waterfalls in all  with a total drop of 242 metres. You can swim in the ice cold pool the falls have worn into the river bed, or if you don't fancy getting wet, just climb the path to the side of the falls and admire the view.

The Blue Cave at Viz is actually on Bisevo Island, 5km south-west of Viz. Anchor in the bay and take the short boat ride round to the cave. Around noon when the sun shines through the opening into the cave, the reflections inside the cave make everything a beautiful blue.

"We have had to finish an absolutely fantastic holiday, I should have booked 2 weeks. Right from my very first contact with Nautilus my customer experience has been exceptional. When we arrived in Athens we were met by Justyna and Elmar who were welcoming and friendly. "
