Flotilla Sailing Holiday on the Cote D'Azur

NEW FOR 2017! Explore the playground of the rich and famous whilst enjoying a fantastic sailing area.

We have been offering bareboat charters on the French Riviera for many years now, and with increasing popularity for this wonderful, close-to-home sailing area we are very excited to offer a brand new Cote D'Azur flotilla for the 2017 season!

National parks, unspoiled islands, historic towns, great onshore facilities and world-class cuisine are just a few reasons to choose the Cote D'Azur for your next sailing holiday.

In this area the prevailing winds tend to be from the north west and north east, with strengths typically ranging from force 2 to force 6. During the hottest months, the Mistral can also make an appearance, with stronger wind conditions again typically from the north.

If you are thinking of sailing the French Riviera for the first time, this flotilla is ideal to show you all the best places. The lead yacht accompanies the flotilla and is on hand to give advice on the cruising area. Reliable winds make this flotilla sailing holiday a great choice for skippers with a reasonable level of experience. This flotilla is run in conjunction with Seafarer Holidays.

For flotilla holidays on the Cote D'Azur the skipper must have RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate or RYA ICC qualification.

At present you need an RYA Day Skipper qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for charters in Croatia, Montenegro, Mallorca, Tenerife and Malta.

The RYA ICC will be ever more required by overseas port authorities but if you have skipper experience it is easily obtained in a day from RYA sailing schools in the UK such as Hamilton Sailing or Brixham Sea School

Whether you are an experienced sailor or setting foot on a yacht for the first time, we can offer you a holiday afloat to suit you. We have given all the sailing areas a level with 'Experience Level 1' suitable for less experienced crews and 'Experience Level 3' for the experts.

This takes into account the wind strength, tidal range and currents, distances between stops and ease of mooring. Of course even experts may choose to sail in Level 1 areas as they still offer stunning scenery and great sailing.

Experience Level 1:

Generally light winds Force 2-4, line of sight navigation, shorter sailing distances under 20nm. You will be Day Skipper standard having sailed at least 1 week or 100nm as skipper.

Experience Level 2: French Riviera

Stronger winds up to Force 3-5 with some longer passages up to 30nm. You will be Day Skipper standard having sailed at least 2 weeks or 200nm as skipper.

Experience Level 3: Brittany

Stronger winds up to Force 4-7 which can lead to bigger seas on long passages between the islands. You will be Coastal Skipper
standard with experience to a higher level having sailed at least 4 weeks or 400nm as skipper.

Sailing holidays in South of France Port Grimaud was created in the 1960s as a private lagoon town, with waterways for roads and yachts parked at the bottom of every garden. All the houses are in exquisitely tasteful old Provençal style and their owners, Joan Collins for example, more than just a little well-heeled. Explore in your dinghy and find restaurants, cafes and shops only accessible by boat.

"I would like to report that we had an excellent holiday sailing the Aeolian Islands courtesy of SunSicily on 'Senza Dubbi'. Our travelling arrangements were complex but the necessary transfers were arranged extremely well. The "yacht handover" at Portorosa was quick, timely and efficient; and the free taxi service to and from the supermarket made provisioning of our vessel the easiest I can ever remember. All in all a first class experience with a special thanks to Francesco at the marina."
