RYA sail training holidays in Kefalonia, Greece
"Just returned from our holiday / course with Ionian Island Sailing. We had a very enjoyable and rewarding week and the tuition was very thorough and professional. Their First 40.7 boat is a superb boat to sail and is kept to a very high standard. Add to that the fantastic weather, scenery and beauty of the island of Kefalonia and you could not get better. We would have no hesitation to recommend this company to anyone wishing to learn to sail or upgrade their skills and knowledge. Thanks also to Nautilus Yachting for their organisation and information." T.B. 2015
Learn to sail or improve your skills with Ionian Island Sailing, an RYA Recognised Training centre on the beautiful island of Kefalonia in the Southern Ionian in Greece. This British, family owned company offers RYA practical courses, Competent Crew for the complete beginner and Day Skipper (non-tidal) for people with previous crewing, dinghy or motoryacht experience.
The school is based in Lixouri, a picturesque Greek harbour 45 minutes from Kefalonia Airport. The Ionian islands of Kefalonia, Ithaka, Lefkas and Paxos provide ideal sailing conditions with sunny skies, calm seas and gentle breezes.
Singles and couples can book a cabin aboard the training yacht, a Beneteau First 40.7, sharing the yacht with other students (maximum 5 students onboard). Couples will share a double cabin. Groups of friends (up to maximum 5) can charter the training yacht for their exclusive use.
Families with children will need to take their own yacht. Children over 12 can do the RYA Competent Crew course while the younger ones have some fun helming the boat, keeping a lookout for wildlife and learning how to tie knots. We will provide appropriate lifejackets for the kids and take great care to ensure everyone's safety at all times.
All courses follow the RYA syllabus but are not suitable for children under 12. RYA course notes and logbooks can be purchased on arrival at a cost of approximately £20. Certificates are awarded at the end of the week to those pupils who meet all the requirements of the courses.
All students sleep on board the boat during the 6-day course which starts and finishes on Saturday. During the week there will be ample opportunity for swimming and snorkelling.
The rate includes breakfast, lunches & refreshments onboard and 2 evening meals onboard. On other evenings meals are eaten ashore at your cost at friendly tavernas in harbours where the yacht is moored for the night. Flights to Kefalonia & airport transfers not included but can be arranged.
