Nautilus Yachting > Yacht Charter > Go Large!
Go large and choose a catamaran charter for your next sailing holiday! Sailing a catamaran has many advantages and certain sailing destinations are perfectly suited to catamaran charters. If you are looking for a sailing holiday which offers you extra space and comfort then take a look at our catamaran sailing holidays.
Many people choose catamarans over monohulls if they are looking for extra space on board. Catamarans are a fantastic option for larger groups or several couples travelling together who would all like their own double cabin. Not only will you find good sized cabins, but the spaciousness of these vessels continues into the saloon and flows to the outside space with fantastic outdoor dining, relaxing and sunbathing areas.
Catamarans also offer more stability due to having two parallel hulls rather than one hull. This is a big advantage for many sailors as well as for travellers looking to experience a sailing holiday for the first time or who might be prone to seasickness. Families also like the stability of catamarans, their flat decks make making moving about the boat much easier.
The broad surface area of catamarans not only makes them more stable but also more comfortable. There is less pitching and rolling when sailing on a catamaran, giving you an overall smoother sailing experience. Performing daily tasks are often much easier on the flat decks of a catamaran, such as cooking or using the bathroom.
Whilst catamarans may be more of a challenge to moor in a marina due their size (although certain marinas cater very well for catamarans), the twin engines and shallow drafts of catamarans make maneuvering much easier. Catamarans may be able to access areas which monohulls typically couldn't and is one of the reasons why catamarans are so popular in areas with extensive coral reefs such as Tahiti and Belize.
Catamaran charters are suitable for a whole range of travellers from families to honeymooners. The benefits of sailing catamarans listed above mean that they are a very appealing option for many looking for a sailing holiday in the sunshine.
Catamarans are very spacious and are great for larger groups. Our catamarans typically have between 4 and 6 double cabins, comfortably accommodating 8-12 people. The twin hulls of the catamarans give more space for cabins and bathrooms so you will find larger cabins on catamarans than you would on monohulls. The extra space onboard continues in the living and dining areas as well as outdoor space, giving everyone onboard plenty of room to move about, prepare and eat food, as well as relax and sunbathe.
The flat decks of catamarans make moving about much easier and this can be a big benefit to families with younger children. Having the ability to move around more freely will make for an enjoyable sailing experience for all members of the family. Parents and children alike will appreciate the extra space and lying on the trampolines watching the sea race by beneath you is a mesmerizing activity to keep the kids amused whilst sailing!
For couples planning their honeymoon or a romantic getaway, catamarans can be the ideal option. Although the onboard space won't always be necessary, it will certainly be a luxury. Having extra space is a wonderful benefit if you are thinking of having a professional skipper onboard. With the extra space, you can have the privacy you desire, whilst having a professional skipper onboard to take care of the sailing so that you can relax and enjoy your romantic escape.
For a bareboat catamaran charter in the Mediterranean you will need to have a valid sailing qualification such as the ICC or RYA Day Skipper. For certain destinations you will also need a VHF licence. For catamaran rentals in the Caribbean and Tropical destinations it is not always necessary to have a sailing qualification but you will need to provide a sailing resume showing experience on a similar yacht. You will find destination specific information on required qualifications on each of our bareboat destination pages.
If you do not have any sailing experience then you can still enjoy a catamaran sailing holiday! We have several options for those looking to enjoy a holiday on the water without taking on the responsibility of the sailing -
