Phi Phi Islands, Maya Bay - “The Beach” (2000)
Who can forget Leonardo DiCaprio's iconic island epic? Tourism took its toll, and the bay was closed for nearly four years to allow for environmental recovery, such as replanting coral. In 2022, it reopened to limited visitor numbers and restrictions to preserve this beautiful natural habitat. We pass by Phi Phi island on the flotilla. There, you can expect dramatic scenery, lively beach bars and restaurants, and unforgettable island energy.
Phang Nga Bay - “The Man with the Golden Gun” (1974) & “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997)
One not to be missed for James Bond fans. “The Man with the Golden Gun” (1974) used the beach for Bond's iconic duel with scaramunger while later in 1997 “Tomorrow Never Dies” used Phang Nga Bay to stand in for Vietnam.
The iconic beach was also used for the Wookiee homeworld and the site of the "Battle of Kashyyyk" in Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.
Phuket, Nai Yang Beach - Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)
Nai Yang Beach was the site where a certain Ms Jones ate a very special mushroom omelet which took her enjoyment of the scenery to a whole new level. Totally unnecessary, as the stunning unspoilt coastline is much better enjoyed with a clear head. Phuket was also the location of her notorious drug bust. Also an experience not to be recommended…….
